Sorghum
Prevention of Macrophomina with biocontrol and yield increase timed to the key phenophases
Application conditions: Soil pH 6–7.5, organic matter min. 1.5%. Calm weather, preferably moist soil, 5–25 °C.
Soil treatment
Microbiological soil inoculation and organic-matter supply
| # | Recommended timing | Product | Dose | Water |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| A | Incorporated before sowing (lower-cost option) | Natur Nova + Fungal additive | Nova 4 L/ha + Fungal additive 1.5 L/ha | 50–300 |
| B | Before sowing or in one pass with sowing (higher-cost, biocontrol-enhanced option) | Natur Nova + Fungal additive + Natur ConiTrio | Nova 4 L/ha + Fungal additive 2 L/ha + ConiTrio 1 L/ha | 50–300 |
The enhanced option is recommended to prevent Macrophomina and wireworm — Trichoderma harzianum and Natur ConiTrio (Coniothyrium minitans + Trichoderma strains) together act as biocontrol agents. The bacterial and fungal components must be mixed together before application.
Application method
Apply the soil treatment as a water-diluted solution by spraying, then incorporate it into the topsoil. It can be applied together with herbicide and liquid N fertilizer.
Foliar fertilizer / Crop treatment
Biostimulant and foliar treatments by season
2× treatment (intensive program)
| # | Recommended timing | Foliar fertilizer | Dose | Water |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1. | 5-leaf stage | Natur Power + MONO Zn + MONO S | 2 + 1 + 1 L/ha | 15–300 |
| 2. | 8-leaf stage | Natur Power + MONO Mn + MONO B | 2 + 1 + 1 L/ha | 15–300 |
1× treatment (base program)
| # | Recommended timing | Foliar fertilizer | Dose | Water |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1. | 8-leaf stage | Natur Power + MONO Zn + MONO S + MONO Mn | 3 + 1 + 0.5 + 1 L/ha | 15–300 |
Drone application: the specified product dose can be applied with 10 L/ha of water. Intensive growth and stem elongation begin at the 5-leaf stage — the stem accumulates a carbohydrate reserve (sucrose), which sorghum uses as an osmolyte to cope with abiotic stress. Floral differentiation takes place at the 8-leaf stage — over the following 15 days the panicle inflorescence forms, and this determines the potential size of the grain yield; sink capacity influences the final yield by roughly 70%. Döbrököz, 2024: a single foliar treatment applied at the 8-leaf stage delivered a 0.53 t/ha yield surplus compared with the untreated control.
Application conditions
Weather suitable for spraying (below 25 °C, calm conditions). In summer heat, spray in the morning or evening hours. Tank-mixable with plant-protection products — always add the foliar fertilizer last. Allow at least 10–14 days between two treatments.
